Our people are at the heart of our business and are a large part of what makes us successful. This month I was delighted to spend time with the leaders of our business and fellow team members during our Pelican seminars. During the seminars, it was great to reflect back and look at our successes of 2017 and provide an update of our strategic plans for the future.

At Pelican Business Services, we have an established set of values that define what we stand for. Our values haven’t been invented they have been shaped by our company’s history, the work we do for our clients and by the experiences of our team members and the people we come in contact with. One of my favourite parts of our seminars is where these values really come to life and we award our team members with coveted leadership and value awards! I am always so proud to hand out these awards which recognise the amazing accomplishments and attitudes displayed our team members throughout the business.

There have been so many examples during May of ‘catching people doing something right’. I’d like to start with a huge shout out to Jen, Andi, Louise and Steve from our Social Policy team. Following a call from a worried customer who needed urgent documentation from us, the team pulled together and arranged for it to be personally dropped to their house

My second shout out this month goes to Kyle from our External Liaison team. Following an email received from a customer who was delighted with the service they received from Kyle outside of working hours.

While out for dinner with his family, Kyle was aware that the restaurant was struggling with a leak. After several phone calls Kyle managed to contact an operational team who visited the business to fix the issue. Kyle even helped to carry water out of the basement to stop the flooding of the business.

“If it wasn’t for him I’m not sure what we would’ve done as we had already tried 15 local emergency plumbers”

In community news this month, Sam, one of our Bristol meter readers, completed the ‘Colman 4’ challenge which involved climbing four mountains in 24 hours in memory of James Colman who suddenly passed away in the night at the age of 22 from a cardiac arrest. Sam has been fundraising for the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and I am delighted to say that so far they have raised £7,000!

To further support Sam’s fundraising we had our first charity football match of the season. A huge well done to everyone involved raising a further £220.72 for this great cause.

A huge well done to Gary, from our Meter Reading team who completed the London Marathon in a truly amazing time of 4 hours and 13 minutes and raised £1300 for Micro & Aophthalmic Childrens Society (M.A.C.S).

Moving on to Health and Well-Being news, a huge well done to our couch to 5k running group who completed Bristol’s ‘Ready Steady Glow’ earlier this month and also to our Bristol 10k runners.

As we now enter our summer months, I look forward to sharing more exciting news on up coming events and inspirational stories from our people around the business.
